Entrepreneur week


Entrepreneur week at St Mary’s College - 19th – 23rd November Next week St Mary’s College will host Entrepreneur week in the school. The event is being hosted by the Technology Department. Over the course of the week pupils will have the opportunity to meet a variety of visiting local, national and international Entrepreneurs. The week long event begins on Monday 19th November. the Keynote speaker will be Mr Harry McGee, Managing Director of Property Invest GB Ltd, and father of Technology & Design Teacher Miss Heather McGee. Harry left school at age 15 Years, he worked in a number robotic jobs until he was seventeen. He Started his first Hygiene Company when he was just 18 years old (while still e working shift-work in Du-Pont) At nineteen, he decided to take the plunge and embrace the wonderful world of enterprise. He currently runs and Manages Property Invest GB Ltd (a London based Commercial Property Co). Former Pupil presenting at the weeklong event is Catriona Jones (nee Ward), proprietor of The Olive Tree gift shop in Waterloo Street. Catriona trained as a teacher and worked as a primary school teacher in London, Abu Dhabi, Sydney and Wales. She completed an MA in Education in Wales where she met and married a welsh man. They have two children. They moved back home Derry to live in August 2011 and as teaching jobs were thin on the ground Catriona followed a dream of setting up a delightful gift boutique ‘The Olive Tree’ in November2011. Catriona was a nominee for Local Woman’s Best New Business of the Year Award 2011. The Olive Tree has since expanded and now also has a workshop where Catriona teaches how to upcycle and relove old furniture. Other entrepreneurs visiting the school include, talented knitwear designer, Edel McBride from the Design Studio, Jennifer McKeever, director of the Airporter Bus Company, mother and daughter business women Margaret and Leona of Sunflower Alley, - Leona’s daughter is currently in Year 9 here in St Mary’s. Alongside the professional entrepreneurs some of our own pupils who run their own little mini enterprises will have an opportunity to show their expertise to the rest of their peers.
