St Mary’s off to Young Scientists Contest

Future scientists from St Mary’s College travelled to Dublin this week to attend the BT Young Scientist Competition at the RDS. This is the 49th year of the competition and has seen the biggest ever entry from all 32 counties of Ireland, with nearly 1,800 entries, of which only 550 qualify for the Finals. The St Mary’s girls were delighted to hear that twelve of these entries were theirs. That’s a hundred percent success rate, with all of their entries selected for the final. This incredible success is due in no small way to the energy and enthusiasm of their mentor and teacher, Mrs Ann Blanking. Even more surprising is the fact that seven of the entries are by individual pupils. Soloists! So, it’s congratulations, bon voyage and bon chance to Saoirse Nash, Aoife Nash (sisters), Kaylan Barrowman, Chelsey Barrowman (sisters), Kennedy Keeney-Robinson, Nicole McHugh, Emer Traynor, Lauren Harkin, Anna O’Hara, Cara Molloy, Megan McClean, Victoria Harkin, Caitlin Walker, Erin McPhilemy, Justine Munoz, Lavina Blanking and Aoife Bolster as they depart on their big adventure to the BT Young Scientist Competition 2013!
