Saint Mary’s Exam pupils shine at ‘True Colours’ Exhibition – Ulster Museum, Belfast.

This year, two Saint Mary’s Art and Design pupils were selected for final inclusion in CCEA’s prestigious ‘True Colours’ exhibition. The exhibition, to be held in the Ulster Museum in Belfast, showcases work which is considered to be the very, very best in the province. GCSE pupil Lauren Doherty along with A-level pupil Kirsty Hegarty have both had their work selected to be included in this, the most prestigious event in the CCEA Art & Design calendar. GCSE pupil Lauren Doherty, inspired by the theme ‘tea-cakes’, produced mouth-watering preparatory work in a variety of traditional and textile media. Her final outcome was a stunning range of hand-crafted cakes displayed on a crafted cake-stand. “My family is delighted and so proud. So many family and friends are making plans to travel to the exhibition – we’ll need a bus!” Lauren Doherty Motivated by themes of over-indulgence and excessive drinking, A2 pupil Kirsty Hegarty produced, insightful and powerful preparatory work displaying her remarkable skill in a wide range of media. Her final outcome, a large 2D painting in oils, was hard-hitting, frightening and remarkable all at the one time. The staff and pupils of Saint Mary’s are extremely proud and are so looking forward to the exhibition! The buses are booked! Belfast – here we come!
