Swim & Tri Academy

St. Mary’s College ‘Swim & Triathlon Academy’ was set up in 2016 to facilitate the demand & rise in participation levels rising for girls in these particular sports.

Its aim was to give girls the opportunity to take part and find out for the first time about new sports such as triathlon.

Led by Gerard Curran the girls have in place dedicated training days for triathlon (Tuesdays) & swim sessions (Wednesday) which enables the girls to train in all aspects of swimming, cycling & running on a weekly basis.

The girls also compete in local & national events, such as the ‘North West Swimming Gala, Ulster Schools Championships & also a host of triathlons, duathlons & aquathons held throughout school year.

The team has seen tremendous success also at these events throughout the years. Our junior swimmers are the current holders of the Year 8 North West Swim Gala Championships trophy.

Mia McKinney Year 12 was also selected to represent Swim Ulster at the recent ‘Ulster Schools’ training camp which took place at Tenerife.

Our school also liaises & has built great relationships with local clubs in our area such as City of Derry Swim club, North West Triathlon club & Foyle Valley AC. This has allowed our girls to develop their new found talents further and compete at even higher standards.
