Fr Thomas Canning, School Chaplain, celebrated Mass in the Oratory for all staff on 30 th August 2011. The first whole school Mass of the year took place on Thursday 15 th September in the Assembly Hall to mark the beginning of the new school year. It is always a poignant date in the School Calendar as it sets a prayerful focus for the School Year.

Our Oratory is a central space in the school. It is open to all throughout the day. It provides both staff and pupils a quiet space for prayer and reflection. The Student Liturgy Team and The Pope John Paul 11 Award candidates conduct Morning Prayer each day in the Oratory. Mass is celebrated there each week during the Season of Lent. The Sacrament of Reconciliation will be available to all staff and pupils during the season of Lent also. We are indebted to the Priests from the local parishes who assist us each year.

The Oratory furniture has recently been installed and the official blessing of the Oratory will take place in the third term. All classes have an allocated time in the Oratory throughout the year. Parents and visitors are most welcome to visit the Oratory.

Each season in the Liturgical Year is celebrated in the school. As a school community we support our local and national charities – in particular St Vincent de Paul at Christmas time and Trocaire during Lent.

Just as we mark the beginning of our Year with the celebration of the Eucharist, we also end each year with special Masses to mark the ‘moving on’ of our Years 12 and 14.
