The pupils of Saint Mary’s College, Derry and Lisneal College meet together every week in St Mary’s College to participate in some of the activities that are available to them at Saturday School.
In a unique venture, Saturday School is an integral part of both schools’ Extended Schools Programme. It is great fun and the pupils of both schools eagerly look forward to it each week. Students can play games, develop new skills, exercise, have a chance to be creative and improve their numeracy, literacy and I.C.T. skills. Students also have an opportunity to make new friends from other classes and from other schools. Within the college itself many exciting activities take place. These include:
| Art |
Cookery |
Singing |
| Nail Art |
I.C.T |
Fun Science |
Keyboarding |
P.E |
Technology |
| Hip Hop Dance |
Line Dancing |

Horse-riding, Golf, Water Activities at Creggan Country Park and the Bowling Alley are also available and are quite popular with pupils. The number of places available at Horse-riding was extended this year from 8 to 14 places to accommodate the growing interest from both Saint Mary’s and Lisneal students. Golf lessons from qualified instructors at Foyle Golf course are also very popular, particularly with the boys from Lisneal College and a group of year 10 students from Saint Mary’s. The bowling alley is a recent addition to the activities available and this too is very popular.
Participating students at Saturday School receive certificates of recognition and special commendations for achievement. A prize-giving ceremony is held at the end of the Christmas term in which achievement in specific subject areas and attendance recognised.
Saturday School operates in St Mary’s College every week from:
10 am till 1pm.
