St Mary's College have launched a cookbook for the "School for Africa" fund. An article about it can be viewed .
Sister Deirdre, Sister Angela and Sister Marie made a memorable visit to Saint Mary's on Wednesday 10th November to recognise and support the work relating to the 'Africa School Initiative'.
Staff and pupils listened intently as Sister Angela described, with great compassion, the huge social disadvantage of the people of Mukura, Kenya. She also shared with us details of the re-building of St Michael's Secondary School - a programme which has been funded by the St Mary's community through the 'Africa School Initiative'.
We were delighted to see that the building programme is well under-way. Sister Angela's words, which were illustrated with photographs of the St Michael's pupils and the building programme, were both humbling and inspirational. Her message from the pupils of St Michael's, Mukura, to the St Mary's community was a resounding 'Thank you!'
We were rightly proud to be able to present another cheque on behalf of the Saint Mary's community for £4250.
In total we have now raised a staggering £17,765 towards our School in Africa.

20th May 2010
On the 18th May Mr. Eamon O'Hare (O'Hare-McGovern Contractors) hosted a meeting to promote St. Mary's 'Africa School Appeal'. Invited were business colleagues of Mr. O'Hare and suppliers to St. Mary's.
Sister Deirdre made a special trip to be with us. Accompanying her was Sister Karen who shared stories of her life-saving paediatric work in trauma stricken Haiti. Sister Deirdre spoke with great warmth of the young people of Kenya. Our pupils were excellent ambassadors for the school and, along with Mr O'Hare, invited those present to support the Appeal.
The event was hugely successful and raised an amazing £7,200. We now have raised over an amazing £12,000!
If you or any of your friends or family would like to support our 'Africa School Appeal' please get in touch.
We would be delighted to hear from you!
Photos from the donation of £5,000 to Sister Deirdre are now available .
The Year 9 pupils are on a mission to raise more funds for the Africa School! They were inspired by Sister Deirdre's talk during 'Role Model Week' about her work supporting communities in third world countries. The Year 9 pupils plan to run a campaign similar to their Year 8 'Buy a Brick' campaign which managed to raise over £3000. They will be asking friends and family to 'Buy a Book', 'Buy a Desk' or 'Buy a Chair'. Kindly show your support by making a donation.
On Monday 22nd March St. Mary's College Creggan opened their Role Model Week with a keynote speech from Sr. Deirdre Mullan. Sr. Deirdre - a former St. Mary's staff member - is now working in the United Nations as Director of Mercy, Global Concern.
Last year Sr. Deirdre asked the school to help build a secondary school in Mukura and it was agreed that St. Mary's would try to raise the necessary money.
If you wish to contribute or help with fundraising please contact the office staff at St. Mary's.
