St. Mary’s College Science Fair 2008

In June 2008 St. Mary’s College held it’s ‘Science Fair’ where pupils from Year 10 were given the chance to showcase the project work they had done in May/ June. The event followed the format of the All Ireland BT Young Scientist of the Year competition held annually in Dublin and was a huge success.
In addition to pupils from St. Mary’s, pupils from Lumen Christi also participated. Prizes included CSI Science Investigation kits, shopping vouchers as well as trophies for the winning projects in each of the categories.
Judges included representatives from St. Mary’s College, Lumen Christi College and from local industries.
Some of the projects on display were ‘Do aliens exist?’, Hands up for Hygiene’, ‘Volcanoes’, ‘Colour Chaos’ and ‘How smoking affects the body’.
Some groups also produced their own websites on topical science issues.
Overall the event was a huge success and this year we hope to work with partner schools to expand the event.
